Privacy in Spellbound
Last updated: August 9, 2026 (rev. 2 — rewarded ads) · Data controller: Helland Apps (contact: thomas96norway@gmail.com)
Spellbound is a word game. It is built local-first with minimal data collection. This page explains what is stored, what is shared, and your rights under the GDPR.
In short
- No account, no login. There is no Spellbound server. Your progress lives on your device and in your personal iCloud.
- Optional rewarded ads only. In Adventure mode you can choose to watch a rewarded ad (served by Google AdMob) to refill lives. Ads are non-personalized: we never use advertising identifiers for tracking, never show banners or interruptions, and never sell or share data. Google may process device information to serve and measure the ad under Google's privacy policy.
- Game Center (Apple). If you are signed in to Game Center, your Game Center nickname, scores and your chosen character loadout may be visible to other players on leaderboards and friend surfaces. This is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. You can disable Game Center in iOS Settings; the game remains fully playable.
- iCloud save sync. Your game progress syncs through your own iCloud (key-value storage). We cannot read it.
- Purchases. Gems and cosmetics are processed entirely by Apple (StoreKit). We never see payment details.
What the app stores
Game progress, unlocked cosmetics, settings and gem balance — on your device and in your personal iCloud. Nothing is sent to us.
Word data attribution
The dictionary is based on the public-domain ENABLE word list. Word definitions are derived from WordNet® (Princeton University), used under the WordNet license.
Your rights
Since we hold no data about you, deletion is in your hands: deleting the app and its iCloud data (Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage) removes everything. Questions? Email us.
